Tarot Reading for 12/5/2023

Sorry for the delay – the last couple of days, my energy was at an all-time low. I tried to do a tarot reading for myself, and felt completely blocked. The clear indication to me was, “Babe, get some sleep. You need it.”

I’m a little better today, still exhausted, and a little stressed (when I’m safely past what’s going on, I’ll explain in better detail). So today, I’m doing a three card pull – keeping is short and simple, and asking what we need to know for tomorrow.

The first two cards fell out of the deck as I shuffled – I placed them faced down, shuffled again, and then pulled the last card from the bottom of the deck. I don’t always incorporate reversals, but today, it felt right to do so.

Today’s Cards:

V of Cups (Reversed) – A deep loss. The kind that feels life changing. It’s an event that will feel like you can’t move past it, but you can. You will. Things feel incredibly horrible right now, as if you’re clinging to driftwood by your fingertips. You will reach the shore. The acceptance following this loss will lead you to peace.

When losses happen – death, monetary, whatever – it can lead us to cling to anything and everything we can control. The material is the most immediate, and clinging to each dollar feels like the safest option when the worst that can happen does. Or maybe for you, it’s that itchy, familiar, wool-blanket of self-doubt. Or an assertion that you’re not good enough. You’re safe and sound where you are, and you never have to leave, no matter how uncomfortable you are there; discomfort is safer than change.

It also promises that you will never grow.

This is easier said than done; I myself cling to pain like it’s a lover. Believing that I deserve horrible things is so much easier than accepting that there are people in my life who genuinely want good things for me.  It’s scary to dare to think you deserve good things because, what if you’re wrong?

You’re not, babe. You deserve good things. You deserve people supporting and loving you for who you are. You deserve for the universe and the people in it to show you kindness. You deserve it.

Read that as many times as you need so that you believe it.

Opening yourself to the possibility of good things in the wake of immense pain is the doorway to growth. Growth as a person, beyond what our foolishly capitalist society tells us, beyond what we were taught as children, and beyond the teeny-tiny-uncomfortably-comfortable places we stuff ourselves into to feel safe.

IV of Pentacles (Reversed) – Fours are considered stable, and Pentacles tend to speak to monetary and material possessions. Reversed, this card warns of financial instability (are any of us surprised?) This card warns that it’s time to save, and, simultaneously to not be stingy.

You might be thinking, “Hey, wait a minute…what?

What you might not know, is that for a hot second, I wanted to be an accountant. This is where that Excel-heavy knowledge comes in handy. Now is the time to set up a budget if you haven’t already. Seriously assess what you need and what you want. Where are places you can cut corners? For me, it tends to be streaming services – each service charging $20/month isn’t worth it to me. For you, it might be cutting back on something else.

If you do have a budget, now is the time to re-evaluate it. If you have a decent amount saved, you might want to consider investing in yourself – starting a website for crafts you do, maybe? Exploring a class you’ve always wanted to take? Don’t go crazy with spending, but this can potentially be a good way to move out of that comfort zone we talked about with the reversed five of cups.

This is the difference between saving and stinginess – saving is healthy, upholds boundaries, and allows for incidents to happen. Stinginess clings to the material with everything in it and refuses any and all possibility of growth.

Ace of Wands - Wands are fire, and Aces are beginning. It’s an incredibly active suit and tends to mean forward motion. In this case, the Ace of Wands is telling us that there will be a new opportunity for us. This is where our choices regarding our loss(es) and our choices to remain comfortable or to move forward will come into play. When the Ace of Wands presents us with a new opportunity will we take it, or, will we stay comfortable? And, to be fair – this is a choice that should not be taken lightly. It’s a new venture, and anything new is going to most likely be scary at first. Typically, it means we have to let go of something we hold onto like a beloved blanket. Evaluate what is most comfortable for you, and, what is objectively best for you. This is where it can be a good idea to enlist a sounding board – someone who will tell you the truth, even when it’s something you might not want to hear.
